With guitars being around for at least the last 400 years, who would have thought that the most expensive guitar to ever sell so far is a 2004 Fender Standard Series Stratocaster. Why would a guitar from only six years ago be the most expensive guitar?
Well for one it was donated by Fender to be auctioned for the 2004 tsunami disaster victims. Second they contacted the previous world’s most expensive guitar owner, Eric Clapton to help create a worthy auction piece.
Mr. Clapton knows a few people and A LOT of famous people.He made some calls and had every famous guitarist he could find sign this donated-for-a good-cause guitar. This beautiful, yet new piece of art sold for a whopping $2.8 million dollars at auction.(which was actually less than it’s projected $5 mil worth!) Some of the signatures besides Mr. Clapton’s included Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams, Sting, Paul McCartney, Angus Young, Jimmy Page and many others in the industry.
